Recently, my favourite shop has been ‘Magazine Heaven’ at Rushden Lakes. I can’t visit Rushden without spending at least 45 minutes browsing the hundreds of magazines they have to offer. From baking to sewing to surfing to fashion, any hobby/ interest you may have, they’ve most probably got a magazine for it.

Ernest.
‘Ernest is a journal for enquiring minds. It’s made for those who value surprising and meandering journeys, fuelled by curiosity rather than adrenaline and guided by chance encounters.’I picked this one up mainly because of it’s feature on Snowdonia – my absolute happy place. The photography and little illustrations in this are gorgeous, the paper quality makes it feel so special that you want to care for it forever. This issue also has such a variety of articles; like ‘Shantyboats: an alternative American history’ and ‘adrift in the atlantic’. This journal is one of my new favourites and I’m excited to keep buying them.
Elementum
‘Elementum is a biannual journal of new writing and visual arts that explores the natural world and our place within it.’I also picked up edition three of Elementum, ‘a journal of nature & story’. This journal has a lot more art than the other – including some lovely watercolours. As well as articles, it also holds poems and stories which make it a great coffee table book – as well as how gorgeous the cover is!

Obviously, I love reading blogs and scrolling through social media; but sometimes its nice to sit and hold a real magazine/ journal, see the photographs printed on paper rather than looking at a screen. I worry that magazines are a dying media, so it feels especially important to me to support shops like Magazine Heaven. If you live nearby, I really recommend having a look!
